Modeling and Simulation in the Commonwealth

One of the top three states for modeling and simulation (M&S) research and industry, Virginia is home to approximately 190 companies that apply M&S technology and employ more than 11,000 people. An estimated 2,800 members of the U.S. military also use modeling and simulation technology in Virginia. In the past five years alone, 19 projects have created almost 1,500 new jobs in the Commonwealth, highlighting M&S’s significant role in the state’s economic development.

Modeling and simulation can be studied at colleges and universities across the Commonwealth. The research leads to the development of technologies and tools to solve complex real-world problems in such diverse areas as transportation and logistics, homeland security, military defense, education and training, and health care.
